This past May, a whopping 90% of respondents to the Turnkey Sports Poll (TSP) indicated they felt “optimistic” about what the next twelve months holds for their businesses. Just 4% felt “pessimistic”; the remainder were neutral.
Though the percentage of “optimistic” TSP respondents has hovered just below 90% for the past twelve months, the high water mark of 90% has only been equaled once before in the history of the Turnkey Sports Poll, in July 2013. By contrast, the percentage of those self-identifying as “optimistic” was at an all-time low in November 2008 when just 46% of respondents labeled themselves as such.
“It is logical that sports business leaders feel bullish about the next year,” said Nikolay Panchev, Turnkey’s Vice President of Consumer Research and manager of the TSP. “Recently, we’ve seen an increasing number of networks compete for sports content, ultimately signing record-setting rights deals. That trend is a big positive in our industry, and shows no sign of slowing down. The fact that media companies, brands and agencies have the opportunity to activate around two huge global sporting events in 2014 (the Winter Olympics and World Cup) is likely also contributing to respondents’ high spirits.”
Established in 2002, the Turnkey Sports Poll is an email-based survey sent to more than 2,000 sports business and entertainment executives every month. The poll covers news, hot topics and current events in sports and entertainment.
